Conformity Assessment
Conformity assessment refers to activities that demonstrate whether the prescribed requirements for a product, process, system, personnel, or institution are met, and the areas include testing, inspection, product certification, management system certification, and personnel certification (certification for a person's specific qualification). As products and services become more technologically complex, demonstrating compliance with standards and other criteria attaches importance to consumer confidence. Conformity assessment is therefore an essential part of economic business, standards, and conformance infrastructure.
Management System Certification
Management system certification means that a third-party accredited certification body confirms that the organization is establishing and implementing a specific management system required by relevant certification standards and performs continuous follow-up activities for the validity of certification.
A third-party accredited certification body that performs such management system certification is called a Management System Certification Body (MSCB). MSCB evaluates and demonstrates whether the organization’s management system meets the requirements stipulated by international standards, issues certificates, and maintains and ensures reliability through surveillance activities.
Requirements related to management system certification
The organizations establish a quality management system according to ISO 9001 requirements and an environmental management system according to ISO 14001 requirements. In addition, there are certification standards such as ISO 45001 for establishment and operation of occupational health and safety management system and ISO/IEC 27001 for establishment and operation of information security management system. MSCB conducts the organizations’ management system audit and certification activities in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1. In addition, there are standards that stipulate additional requirements for MSCB for the audit and certification of specific management systems, such as ISO/IEC 17021-2 and ISO/IEC 17021-3.
