World Food Safety Day

Each year, one in ten people worldwide is infected with a food-borne disease. More than 200 diseases have been discovered so far, some of which are very lethal to humans. Accordingly, in 2018, the United Nations designated June 7 as World Food Safety Day to raise awareness of food-related human health issues. WHO and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in collaboration with Member States and stakeholders, promote the annual World Food Safety Day celebration.

2022 World Food Safety Day theme is 'Safer food, better health', highlighting the role of safe and nutritious food in ensuring human health and well-being, and calling for a specific set of actions to make safer food.

Food safety is in our hands – from growing, processing, transporting, storing, selling, purchasing and serving food. Working together, we get safer food for better health.

ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System

There are internationally standardized documents for food safety management, including ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, SQF, etc. Among them, ISO 22000 is an international standard that integrates and supplements major elements of ISO 9001 quality management system and HACCP to provide an effective system for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of food safety management systems. It stipulates the requirements to establish, implement, maintain, update and continuous improve of a food safety management system, and all organizations in the food supply chain can autonomously build an integrated system for food safety management through this international standard.

ISO 22003-1:2022, ISO 22003-2:2022

In commemoration of World Food Safety Day, ISO issued a revised ISO 22003 (Part 1, Part 2) on the food management system. Torben Lyster-Clasen, chairman of the technical committee that developed standards and expert on ISO 22000 and ISO 22003, said the revised ISO 22003 (Part 1, Part 2) would help food businesses, consumers, food safety inspectors and related regulators recognize food safety regulations.

ISO 22003-1:2022

ISO 22003-1 is a standard that stipulates requirements for food safety management system audit and certification bodies, and is a revised document from ISO/TS 22003:2013. It was prepared based on ISO/IEC 17021-1, the requirements that the management system certification body should comply with, and additionally provides the requirements such as details according to the food chain category and competence for personnel involved in food safety management system audit and certification.

ISO 22003-2:2022

ISO 22003-2 is a standard that specifies requirements for product, process, and service evaluation and certification bodies, including the audit of food safety systems, and is a document that supplements ISO/IEC 17065.
